Outback Odyssey Day 6

Day 6
Burra to Hallett 90km

Ok so the actual distance from Burra to Hallett on the highway is 33km.... So I know what you are thinking. "What the hell"???? Yes we rode the long, long way around.

But OMG the sights and the country we rode through was amazing!

We had to detour off the Mawson track this morning as the road was too muddy after all the rain they have had down here. So we started up the highway (that's how I know it's only 33km). We are only on the highway for about 10km before being back on the dirt and on our way back onto the Mawson. Mind you the detour was not for everyone, some crazies still did the mud. On hearing stories at dinner it took some of them 3 hours to get 20km.... That's seems like too much hard work for us.

Morning tea was yet again fruit cake... Getting over it, so tomorrow we are going to make vegemite sandwiches at breakfast and have them for morning tea.

Dinner tonight was another challenge... We where on the second last table for service and by the time it go to us they where almost out of soup, so we only got a small bit and then for mains we had to wait for more food to be cooked. I know they are only small towns doing the cooking and good on them for sticking their hands up.... But when you ride 90km up and down dirt hills all day you need to be fed a decent meal in a timely fashion so we can get to bed and do the next days ride.

Ok enough bitching.

We saw a lot of great country today and a lot of the places I can't remember the names with out the pictures. Melrose is our next rest stop and I will be getting in and uploading some pictures for you to have a look at.

Tomorrow is just a short day 45km.... Which is more likely to be 50 or longer as the ride guide has not had the correct distance published yet. We are off to Spalding tomorrow. Up a long hill so I am told.

I'm off to sleep now. 9.20pm.... Such a tired little chook!
