Hallett to Spalding A massive 45km
Or 46.68 actual distance.
So nice to walk up and not have a wet tent.... But boy was it cold last night. Down to 4deg so I am told. There was a massive fog that did not clear until 9.30am which made GoPro video's not very good, I managed to get one in before the battery failed. I need to find a bigger town and a power board so I can charge more that one thing at a time.
We started the day with another detour around the mud, but we did not mind. Once back on the Mason track it was a nice little run up and then down a rocky hill. Morning tea was surprise surprise fruit cake, but mum and I has vegemite sangers we made at breakfast... The breakfast lady was a bit shitty we asked for extra bread. (She is of a dragon lady). Morning tea was only at 18km down the road so we did to really need much, but I am glad we ate... As after morning tea was a massive hill. Not steep just long and windy. Clearing though the fog we saw the wind farm that we road past yesterday. (Mum and I have stopped calling these windmills in the windmill game as its too hard to work out which ones we have already called and we need clarification on the rules) On top of the hill the windmills go for miles and miles. We stopped and took lots of pictures of these as the view was amazing.
The down hill was about 2km we think. It was just was fun as the up hill! (I still have only walked the one small hill) at the top of the hill we did stop to take an extra photo of (lady Gaga) OMG you should have seen this chick.... Pink and black corset, elbow length gloves, feather boa, fishnet stockings, tutu and a bright pink wig..... Yes she rode in this all day! Claiming she was not cold! Yah right! Mum and I had to put extra clothes on for the down hill sections as it was still very cold with the wind chill factor.
Anyway, getting closer to town we turn off the farm road onto a track that runs along the old water channel build in 1890 by hand. This was pretty nice riding, mostly flat. Then back onto a farm road for the last bit into town.
Spalding is not very big, a pub, a school, a police station and about a dozen houses. We did see two churches and a lawn Bowles lawn, but not much else... Mind you we did find a second hand shop inside the pub (yep inside the pub) mums done two more Christmas gifts... Now we just have to carry them home.
As it was a short day we have been sitting around for a few games of Rummy and are now just waiting for dinner. Dinner (again) is about a kilometre from the camp site.... I mean, come on! It freezing cold for us from the north and we have to walk down to dinner and back again at 8.30 at night. This is one part of the trip that could be better organised. Nothing seems to be close. Mind you we did get put right near the toilets last night, which was good for having to go at midnight but crap cos of the noise. Then tonight we are about the same distance from the toilets as we are from the dinner hall. So we will be using the nicely placed tree behind our tent.
Tomorrow we are off to Laura, 80ish km. Dad will meet us in Laura to get our dirty washing and then meet us in Melrose for the next rest day. That means we don't have to battle for the washing machines and dryers like at Burra.
Until tomorrow kids.
